Dear readers,
The companies of the rail sector have now released most of their financial reports for 2023.
Some profitability gaps appear between passenger traffic and freight traffic, and CIT will continue to support its members in all their activities.
This second half of 2024 brings challenges for the rail sector. The new governance within the European Commission is accompanied by positive messages on the development of European rail. The results of this trend will be assessed in the coming months. For freight, work to revise the COTIF and its Uniform Rules could be initiated by OTIF from 2025. CIT will analyse the impact for you, as well as any potential solutions following the forthcoming rule changes .
This issue of CIT-News will summarize recent events and meetings but also indicate our current priorities and upcoming actions.
Updates in digitalisation for freight, as well as the revised URVIS rules for wagons, will be presented in detail.
In passenger traffic, some useful debriefs will also inform you on the contents of the recent CIV Working Group and Passenger Claims conference in Utrecht. Additionally, a presentation of the CIT harmonized delay confirmation form appeared useful.
In freight traffic, as well as updates on digitalization, the recent UIC-CIT workshop on wagon law will be summarized with an interesting comment on the customs procedure on the CIM consignment note.
The CIT remains a recognized actor of the rail sector and has been confirmed by the European Commission as member of the Digital Transport and Logistics Forum (DTLF). We will keep you informed of these works and their results.
As usual in this CIT-News, some updated information on our events and activities, which is also made available on the CIT website and LinkedIn page. Please note that the next Data Protection conference is planned for June 2025, at a date to be confirmed.
Wishing you an interesting read,
