Dear readers,
This is my final editorial in my capacity as CIT Secretary-General. The next issue of CIT-News in July will be introduced by my successor, Gilles Mugnier.
My 10 years as CIT Secretary-General were an exciting and varied time, during which we achieved a lot for our members! But it was only possible thanks to all our members’ collaboration: the key to our success was the dedicated contribution of many experts and managers from member companies. For that reason, I wish to sincerely thank you all for your support, and wish you all every personal and professional success. In particular, I would like to thank my team at CIT, who have done an outstanding job throughout my term of office.
I wish my successor Gilles Mugnier every success!

PRR entered into force
The revision process for Regulation (EC) 1371/2007 on rail passengers' rights and obligations (PRR) has concluded. The new Regulation (EU) 2021/782 entered into force on 7 June 2021, and will be applicable from 7 June 2023 (except Article 6 paragraph 4, on spaces for bicycles, which will be applicable as of 7 June 2025).

CIV Working Group drafted its focus for 2023
The interpretation of the new Passenger Rights Regulation and plans for further enhancement of the Agreement on Journey Continuation (AJC) were some of the highlights of the 56th CIV Working Group which was held on 16 November both in person in Bern and in a remote form.
CIT hosts TAP Retail Common Support Group meeting in Bern
Revision of the TAP TSI core text, proposals on amendments to the technical specifications and Open Sales Distribution Model were some of the highlights of the last TAP Retail Common Support Group (CSG) meeting, which was held on 21 February 2023 at the premises of the CIT General Secretariat in Bern.

The difficulties and challenges of international rail transport of waste
Since its participation in the UIC RID Expert Group in November 2022 in Wiesbaden, CIT has seen the need for several members to actively deal with the subject of international rail transport of waste and the many problems encountered by carriers. The highlight of many of the bilateral exchanges was a presentation of the regulatory framework and possible temporary solutions targeted by CIT for this kind of transport, which presents a number of particularities.
CIM Committee endorses further enhancement of the CIT freight products
The 26th meeting of the CIM Committee was chaired by Gilles Mugnier, and took place on 23 March 2023 both at CIT Office in Bern and online. Further enhancing the freight products to cater for ongoing digitalisation is a core task for the CIT General Secretariat. In approving the CIT Freight Manual (GTM-CIT), the CIM Committee took a further step towards this aim.
