UIC Transport of Dangerous Goods Expert Group (UIC TDG EG) on 3-4 March 2026

The first meeting in 2026 of the UIC TDG EG was held on 3-4 March 2026 in Erding (Germany) at the kind invitation of Lokomotion Gesellschaft für Schienentraktion and Kombiverkehr. As legal consultant to UIC in this Expert Group, CIT is highly regarded by the experts, given its involvement in the group for several years.

On Tuesday 3 March, CIT presented the challenges of implementing the Waste Shipment Regulation for rail carriers, as well as the new DIWASS configuration (Digital Waste Shipment System). As the legal interface for BtoA (from rail carriers to competent authorities) and BtoB (between rail carriers in the context of the international transport of waste goods by rail), CIT provided a detailed overview of the situation and current developments through the CIT Expert Group on Waste shipments and specific transport at the online meeting on 26 February 2026. The 35 experts present in Erding appreciated this tailored support from CIT, as well as its work on developing the CIM electronic consignment note.

On Wednesday 4 March, the UIC expert group visited the Munich-Riem transshipment station. This important visit to the rail-road terminal was instructive in helping to better understand the challenges of intermodal transport and the operational issues involved. The visit included discussions with the terminal's operational managers, an overview of the management and handling of tank containers in freight train compositions, and finally a technical presentation on tank containers by experts.

The next meeting of the UIC TDG EG will take place on 12-13 November 2026 in Verona (Italy).
