Meeting between CIT and European Passenger Federation
The possible enhancement of CIT’s Agreement on Journey Continuation (AJC), the digitalisation of ticketing, and the ongoing OTIF consultation on COTIF were among the key topics discussed at a joint meeting between the International Rail Transport Committee (CIT) and the European Passenger Federation (EPF). The meeting took place on 4 December 2024 at CIT headquarters in Bern.
The Agreement on Journey Continuation (AJC) was the focal point of discussions between CIT, represented by Gilles Mugnier, Nina Scherf and Jan Vavra, as EPF was represented by EPF Chairman Josef Schneider. During the exchange, it was acknowledged that disruptions are an inherent part of railway operations. However, how passengers are treated during such disruptions is a critical point which must be constantly focused on.
CIT presented the latest developments in the AJC during 2024 and shared its vision for future enhancements. Key priorities include:
- Digitalisation of processes, such as delay confirmations.
- Continuous staff training to ensure competence in handling disruptions.
- Effective communication with passengers to build trust and confidence.
The fruitful collaboration between CIT and EPF has already delivered a significant outcome: the joint EPF-CIT Leaflet on the AJC, which combines CIT’s legal expertise with EPF’s knowledge of customer-friendly communication.
About the AJC
The AJC aims to support passengers in reaching their final destination when a train delay or cancellation causes them to miss one or more of their booked connections. More information can be found here.
