Editorial
Dear CIT members:
As the year draws to a close, I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation on behalf of the CIT General Secretariat for your support and contribution. In the short period of time since the last CIT NEWS, the CIT passenger and freight products have been successfully updated and further developed. At international level we are proactively participating in the ongoing revision by OTIF of the COTIF CIV, CIM and CUV Uniform Rules. At supranational level, the European Commission railway agenda is diverse and challenging. We are making our best possible legal contribution to supporting the rail sector support in close cooperation with CER and UIC.
We were able to illustrate all this at the last CIT General Assembly on 20 November 2025 in Bern, together with the members of the Executive Committee. There are times in economic development when we need to stand united for the sake of our transport sector. That time is now, and we must stand together. As the CER presentation on the Economic footprint of rail transport in Europe at the General Assembly impressively demonstrated, the railways are the backbone of our free society.
I wish everyone a peaceful holiday season and a new lease of energy in 2026!
