CIT delivered online training to PKP Group as part of its 2025 Training Programme

Two one-day online training sessions for PKP S.A., including PKP Cargo and PKP Intercity, deepened participants’ understanding of international rail law and CIT products in both freight and passenger traffic.

As part of the CIT 2025 Training Programme, the International Rail Transport Committee (CIT) organised two online training days for PKP Group. The sessions, held on 29 and 30 October 2025, brought together participants from PKP Cargo S.A. and PKP Intercity, providing a comprehensive overview of international and European rail transport law and the related CIT products. At the beginning of the training, participants were introduced to the structure, mission and activities of the CIT, including its role in implementing international rail transport law, developing legal tools for railway undertakings, and cooperating with partner organisations such as OTIF, UIC and CER.

Freight session – 29 October 2025

The first day focused on freight traffic and included four modules covering international railway law (COTIF/CIM), CIT freight products including the CIT Freight Traffic Manual (GTM-CIT), using the consignment note and the wagon note (GLV-CIM / GLW-CUV), CIT products dedicated to claims management (AIM), and finally an overview of wagon law and the General Contract of Use (GCU). The online session was attended by around 60 participants from PKP Cargo S.A. and enabled Polish colleagues to obtain explanations on the applicable international and supranational regulations within the framework of COTIF and EU law, as well as on the relevant CIT products.

Passenger session – 30 October 2025

The second day focused on passenger transport and consisted of four modules covering COTIF/CIV and EU rail passenger law (rail PRR), the CIT Agreement on Claims Handling (AIV) illustrated by practical cases, as well as CIT passenger traffic products such as the GCC-CIV/PRR, Agreement on Journey Continuation (AJC), CIT’s Manual on Cooperation (MCOOP), and the Manual for International Rail Tickets (MIRT). The session, attended by about 35 participants from PKP Intercity, provided a clear overview of international and European passenger law and practical insights into the use of CIT tools and manuals in this field.

CIT Training Programme

The CIT GS Training Programme offers a wide range of training modules in both passenger and freight traffic, delivered either online or in person. Modules are designed for different levels of expertise—from central departments of railway undertakings to operational staff—and may serve as introductory or advanced sessions on specific legal and practical topics. Training activities are an integral part of CIT’s work: they not only help to deepen members’ knowledge of international railway law and CIT products but also provide valuable feedback on their implementation in practice.

CIT warmly thanks CIT Vice-Chair Maria Urbańska from PKP for her initiative and dedication in supporting this important training activity.
